Listen: Gareth Harkin savours the ‘sweetest‘ promotion yet

Gareth Harkin celebrated promotion for the second time as a Finn Harps player tonight – but says this is the best one.

The drama of 2015 and BJ Banda’s late goal was never going to be replicated and tonight Harps made sure their supporters didn’t have to endure the same nerves.

Goals in either half from Mark Timlin and Nathan Boyle fired Harps – who had a 1-0 lead from the first leg – to a 2-0 win over Limerick at the Markets Field.

“It’s hard to believe that it’s two promotions in four years, but that’s the sweetest because it’s the best we played,” Harkin said.

“That was sweet and our fans were brilliant tonight. The Premier is where any player wants to be.

“We played very well. That’s probably the best we played.

“This is right up there. Football wise this is one of the best, we have pace, youth, everything in the team.”
