Seosamh Macceallabhui: Red Hughs massive underdogs in Ulster semi-final

Red Hughs manager Seosamh Macceallabhui insists his side will have a tough task ahead of them in the Ulster Junior Championship semi-final (2.30pm) against Monaghan’s Emyvale at Healy Park.

The Donegal outfit have travelled to Omagh to play against one of the favourites of the competition and Macceallabhui acknowledged his side may be up against it for large parts of the fixture.

“We’re playing a very good team,” he said. “They’re an excellent team, they have won it a few times in the last seven or eight years and it will be a big ask.”

Red Hughs will be going into the knockout affair with their confidence sky-high after securing a Donegal Championship for the first time in 37 years earlier this month.

The East Donegal side has already progressed well in the Ulster competition so far, cruising past Antrim JFC holders Con Magee’s Glenravel last weekend.

However, when asked if confidence could play a big factor in the game, the Red Hughs boss was coy in his reply.

“I’m not so sure confidence does play a part in matches like these but I am one-hundred per cent sure that Emyvale are the favourites for this game.

“The pressure will be on them, more than it is on us,” he added. “No one is expecting us to come out on top. Last weekend we beat the Antrim champions, but people expect you to win that or at least put on a good show, but this time the expectations are zero from the general public.

“We’re quietly confident. We are not going there to lose, if we were going to Omagh to lose then we wouldn’t go at all.”
