Glenfin    0-08         V     2-13    St.Mary’s Banagher .                                                                                                                              Derry champions Banagher proved much too strong for Glenfin , winning by eleven points with an impressive second-half display which saw them outplay their their Donegal counterparts.                                                                                     Charlie Collins reports from McCool Park .                                                                  The visitors got off to the worst possible start when less than two minutes into the game their captain Paul Cartin received a black-card for a late tackle on Gavin Mc Dermott , a somewhat foolish act by a very experienced player in full few of the referee Noel Mooney.                                                                                        Gerard Ward gave Glenfin the lead in the 8th minute from a free , but points from play by Ciaran Lynch and Shane Farren had Banagher ahead by the 13th minute. Brian Og McGilligan made it 0-03 to 0-01 when he reacted quickest to a ball that rebound back off a post in the 17th minute but the visitors suffered another setback a minute later when goalkeeper Darrell McDermott became their second player to receive a black-card when after spilling a simple looking catch and then tripped Conor Ward as he attempted take advantage of the error.    Gerard Ward converted the free to leave a point in it.                                                   But Banagher responded well and added four points without reply , Mark Lynch with two frees and Gavin O Neill kicked two excellent points from play to make it 0-07 to 0-02 in the Derry men’s favour , in between those Glenfin were also in for a goal but replacement keeper Killian McDermott denied Gerard Ward after Stephen Carr had created the opening .  Just before half-time Stephen Ward got Glenfin’s third point, their first from play to leave them trailing by four at the break.                                                                                                                                                            Glenfin made three changes for the second-half and Gerard Ward scored in the second minute , it was a goal chance but he blasted over.  Banagher responded immediately with points from Gavin O Neill and Tiernan Moore to lead by five points.  That quickly became eight when corner-back Shane Murphy ventured forward but his shot dropped short only for keeper Andrew Walsh to spill it and allow Gavin 0 Neill to pounce and drive the ball to the net , 1-09 to 0-04 and game over it seems.                                                                                                       Paddy O Conner and Gerard Ward kicked points for Glenfin , Shane Farren replied for Banagher and then Gary Dorrian and Jason Morrow points left five in it at 1-10 to 0-08 , and we wondered ? . That didn’t for long as that corner-back Shane Murphy again raced forward again but this time he hammered the ball into the net for a super goal and a minute later he was at it again kicking an excellent point this time and it was 2-11 to 0-08 and certainly game over.              Banagher added a couple of late points to leave the final score 2-13 to 0-08 in their favour and a semi-final spot secured. Disappointment for Glenfin but a excellent season for the club nonetheless.                                                                               GLENFIN ;  Andrew Walsh  , Ross Marley , John Harkin , Gary Herron , Daniel McGlynn , Frank McGlynn , Stephen Carr ,  Stephen Ward ( 0 – 01 ) , Patrick Costello , Karl McGlynn , Jason Morrow ( 0-01 ) , Gavin McDermott , Gerard Ward  ( 0 – 04 ) ,  Ciaran Brady , Conor Ward.                                                                                                                                                                               SUBS  ;  Paddy O Conner ( 0-01 ) , for Stephen Ward ( h/t ) , Gary Dorrian ( 0-01 ) for Costello ( h/t ) , Eoin Donnellan for Brady ( h/t ) , Stephen McDermott for Conor Ward ( 40mins) , Aodhfin McGlynn for Karl McGlynn ( 49mins ) , Hugh Moy for Harkin ( 55mins ),  Harkin for Ross Marley ( 58mins ) .                                                                                                     ST.MARY’S BANAGHER ;  Darrell McDermott , Shane Murphy ( 1-01 )  , Ruairi McCloskey  , Oisín McCloskey , Paul Cartin , Sean McCullagh , Darragh McCloskey , Brian Og McGilligan ( 0 – 01 ) ,   Mark Lynch ( 0 – 02 ) , Gavin O Neill  ( 1-04 ) , Peter Hagan , Ciaran Lynch ( 0 – 01 ) , Niall Moore , Shane Farren ( 0 – 02 ) , Tiernan Moore ( 0 -01 ) .                                                                                                                     SUBS ;  Michael Anderson for Paul Cartin ( black-card 2mins ) , Killian McDermott for Darrell McDermott ( black-card 18mins ) ,  Conor Feeney for Moore ( 0-01 42mins ) , Stefan McCloskey for Ciaran Lynch ( 54mins ) , John Lynch for Murphy ( 56mins ) , Pauric McCloskey for Mark Lynch ( 56mins ).                                                                                                                                                                                               REFEREE ;  Noel Mooney ( Cavan ) .
