Shane Byrne acclaimed his LyIT side after a superb CFAI Cup win over IT Carlow at the Port Road yesterday.

Goals from Shaun McBride and Connor Gormley gave the LyIT side a 2-1 win against IT Carlow, who had won seven of the last 9 CFAI Cups.

It’s a result that will go down as one of the best ever from an LyIT perspective.

“It’s a great achievement and one we thoroughly deserved,” Byrne said.

“The quality that we have was fairly evident there.

“We have a long way to go yet. We have a lot of young lads there who stood up to a seasoned team.”
