Listen: Shane Byrne content as ‘below par’ LyIT draw with DkIT

Shane Byrne felt that his Letterkenny Institute of Technology side was ‘below par’ in their League draw with Dundalk this afternoon.

LyIT fell behind to Carlton Ubaezuonu’s header, but hit back straight away with Ciaran Kelly heading home an equaliser.

But even by that stage, Byrne’s side might have been a goal or two in front.

“The game should have been over after 15 minutes,” Byrne said.

“We didn’t take our chances. We had the best chance of the game when Adrian tried to round the ‘keeper. We’ll take a point.

“We didn’t perform up to the standards that we set ourselves. We were below par.  Maybe a point was what we deserved.”

After a come-from-behind win over Carlow IT in the Cup last week, Byrne was pleased to see his side respond again and they host North West Regional College on Wednesday-week with a second-placed finish – and a home draw – still up for grabs.

Byrne said: “There is a great spirit in that dressing room. Sometimes you don’t get that in college football. We have it in there in abundance.”
