A Garda who was riding a quad on the open road without wearing a helmet was bringing the machine to Letterkenny Garda station because there was no transporter available.

Donegal Daily understands the quad was seized on Sunday last in the Glencar area.

A request was made to transport the vehicle to the station at Newline Road but officers were told there was none available at that time.

A decision was made to take the machine to the station by local Gardai.

Pictures of a man in a Garda jacket were taken from behind the quad by a member of the public and posted on social media.

The pictures show the man on the Circular Road at Glencar and approaching the Hospital Roundabout.

Gardai have confirmed that the incident is being investigated.
