Delight as Santa’s postbox appears in Dunkineely after loss of post office!

Caring residents in a Co Donegal village have teamed up with Santa’s helpers to ensure that the loss of their local post office does not cause local children too much concern.

Dunkineely was one of a  number of villages across the county which lost its post office this year due to An Post cutbacks.

But this week children have been surprised to find a new postbox in the village.

Over the weekend, a festive flash could be seen coming near the local Little V.I.P’s Preschool, before a shining light could be seen disappearing towards the North Pole.

An accompanying letter, posted by the North Pole Department of Communications on behalf of Santa, reassured the kids of Duninkeely that Mr Claus is keen to receive their letters before he sets off around Donegal.

Local children who have not posted their letters already are being urged to use the new postbox to ensure everything is in order on Christmas morning.

The letter said:

Dear Little VIPs,

It has come to our attention here in the north pole that Dunkineely post office has closed down, we will miss our wee chats with Ann and Peggy.

We have made this special post box so all the boys and girls of all ages can leave their letter for me here and I will send Barnard (my head elf) to collect them personally and I will send you a letter back.

Ho Ho Ho,

Santa Claus.
