Jim McGuinness has been named as the head coach at United Soccer League club Charlotte Independence.
The 2012 All-Ireland-winning manager has been given a three-year contract at the North Carolina outfit.
The Glenties man led Donegal to Sam Maguire in 2012 and won three Ulster titles during a golden spell as Tir Chonaill manager.
In the winter of 2012, McGuinness took up a role at Celtic, initially as a performance consultant before moving into coaching.
He spent a year as assisting Roger Schmidt at Chinese Super League team Beijing Sinobo Guoan.
McGuinness has repeatedly stated his desire to land a role as a soccer manager – and now he has it.
“I think I’ve learned a huge amount and tried to be studious in my application from the very first day I walked into Celtic from my experiences of all the managers I worked under,” McGuinness told the Irish Times.
“At the same time I was trying to build a picture in my own mind of how I saw the game and of how I would like the game to be whenever I became a manager. The other side of that coin is that if you leave the philosophical side of things out of it: football is about people and life is about people.”
McGuinness will be unveiled as the Charlotte Independence manager at a press conference on Tuesday.
