Listen: Johnny Dunleavy on how Sligo Rovers is ‘the perfect fit’

Johnny Dunleavy says that Sligo Rovers was the ‘perfect fit’ for him.

After leaving Cork City at the end of the 2018 season, Dunleavy has linked up with Liam Buckley at Sligo for 2019.

“It was the perfect fit for me at this time,” Dunleavy said.,

“It’s a challenge and a project for me, but it’ll be a privilege to play for a club like that.

“I’ve had many battles in the Showgrounds when it’s rocking and hopefully we can have it like that next season.”

Dunleavy has had plenty of injury troubles during his career, but will hope for a trouble free time at the Showgrounds.

Dunleavy won a League title with Cork in 2017, but the Twin Towns man suffered a cruciate injury midway through that campaign.

The former Wolves youth will now hope to lead Sligo’s charge back up the table.

He said: “Cork and Dundalk have set the standards and the gap has been quite wide. Realistically speaking, we need to aim for the top four place. That has to be an ambition and a goal.”
