Listen: O’Donnell praises ‘character’ as Strand go top

Jim O’Donnell hailed his Strand Rovers side as they secured a priceless win over Oldtown Celtic in Drumkeen to take over at the top of the Glencar Inn Division One.

Dillon Boyle and Daniel Ward hit the goals for the reigning champions as they moved to the summit with a 2-1 win.

“A huge three points today,” O’Donnell said.

“The lads showed great character.  Oldtown put up a mighty fight. Oldtown threw everything at us.”

Despite going top, O’Donnell says his side have to stay grounded with still over half of their League fixtures to play.

He said: “We’re happy to be top, but we’re not at the halfway stage. It’s far from over yet and we’ve a long way to go. It’s hard to call it. We just have to look after ourselves, go out and get the points as often as we can.”
