Fanad United and Bonagee United Youths braved the gale force winds to play out an entertaining one-all draw on Saturday afternoon.

Fanad United 1 Bonagee United 1

Fanad played with the aid for the wind in the first half and had the majority of possession. After 10 minutes Shaun Kerr found space on the edge of the box and his shot produced a fine save from Cian Harkin in the Bonagee goals.

A minute later Harkin saved a well struck Paul Bradley free kick. Fanad made their pressure pay when they took the lead in the 17th minute.

When Conor McHugh found space 20 yards out, his shot found it’s way into the bottom corner.

In the 25th minute Bonagee missed a gilt edged chance to equalise. Degi Bashar’s shot from the edge of the box was parried by Eoghan Jordan and when the rebound fell to Alcorn who hit the side netting from close range.

The second half the wind increase and Bonagee had good spells of possession. However it wasn’t until the 75th minute when any chance of note was created.

Jack Murphy hit a sweet shot from 25 yards which produced a superb full length save from Fanad keeper Eoghan Jordan.

However Murphy wasn’t to be denied a goal. Three minutes later his shot from 18 yards nestled in the bottom corner.

The goal seemed to spark new life into Fanad and they had opportunities to win the game.

With five minutes left, Cian Harkin produced an excellent save to deny Bernard McGettigan.

And with one of the last pieces of action, Joshua McAteer was denied the winner when his close range shot was brilliantly blocked on the line by a Bonagee defender.
