Weather forecasters are predicting a stormy night of wind and rain tonight, with two weather alerts issued for Donegal.
Tonight (Monday) will have ‘very heavy’ rain and a risk of thundery downpours, according to Met Eireann.
There is a risk of flooding in areas during the worst spells as heavy rain will lead to accumulations of 25 to 40 mm. Higher mountain areas may be worst affected.
Winds in the Ulster region will reach gale force with severe gusts overnight and will reach gale to strong gale force in coastal areas.
Status Yellow warnings for wind and rainfall are in place for Donegal tonight.
The wind alert is valid from 1pm on Monday to 4am on Tuesday.
The rain warning takes effect from 7pm Monday to 7am on Tuesday morning.
For Tuesday, forecasters say that similar wet and windy conditions can be expected: “There will be widespread heavy rain for a time on Tuesday morning followed by a clearance from the west to scattered showers and some sunny spells later. Some of the showers will be heavy with the risk of hail or thunder.
“South to southwest winds will moderate to fresh but over the east winds will still be strong to gale force for a time in the morning.”
