Big crowd set to descend on Finn Valley for St Stephen’s Day 5k

It’s in its 48th year now and the Finn Valley AC 5k on St Stephen’s Day keeps drawing the crowds.

It’s a chance to shake off the turkey from today in a fun environment that draws a big family and community interest.

Some of the world’s finest athletes, like Kenyan Vivian Cheruiyot and Great Britain’s Mo Farah, have ran in the event over recent years.

Local sports people, such as boxer Jason Quigley and cyclist Philip Deignan are also among those who have attended.

It began in the very early seventies in Drumboe Forest Stranorlar, survived a few tough weather challenges in the last decade, and has established itself as a go to  event in a major way in East Donegal each year.

Former athlete and local parish priest Fr Kieran McAteer will set the race in motion tomorrow at 12 noon.

Check in on the day before 11.30 to collect number and chip and hang around for a chat and a cuppa afterwards.
