Finn Harps, featuring a number of trialists, overcame Galway United in their opening pre-season fixture tonight in Sligo.

Jacob Borg and Niall McGinley netted as Ollie Horgan’s men came out on top at McSharry Park in Sligo.

Harps included six trialists among those who saw action tonight, while Tony McNamee (pictured) came on as a second-half substitute.

McNamee played for Harps in 2015 and 2016 before returning to his native Swilly Rovers.

McNamee came back to Swilly this season having been the Ulster Senior League’s top scorer while at Fanad United in the 2017/18 season.

McNamee is training with Harps again in a bid to earn a contract.

Peter Burke, Niall Logue, Keith Cowan, Bog, Liam Walsh and McGinley were included alongside three trialists plus new signings Daniel O’Reilly and Colm Deasy in the starting XI.

Ten minutes before half-time, Borg fired Harps ahead with a deflected effort from outside the box.

Two minutes into the second half, McGinley headed home the second.

Youngsters Darragh Ellison, Ryan Finn and Stephen Doherty were among the subs used by Harps in the second half while Burke made some fine stops to keep his sheet clean.
