Eamonn McConigley insists that Letterkenny Rovers are firmly in the Ulster Senior League title race.
Defeat for Rovers on Sunday would’ve meant a six-point gulf, but BJ Banda’s double means they’re just three adrift – with ten games still to play.
“We still feel that we’re in the League,” McConigley said.
“We have a lot to play for. It’s not about today, it’s about the season. Everybody wants to win the League, so do we. That result keeps us in it.”
“We’re happy enough with the point.”
Banda twice had Rovers ahead and the former Finn Harps man has been in excellent goalscoring form this season.
McConigley said: “If BJ gets a chance, he normally puts them away. He was going well before Christmas and he’s back at it now, which is a big plus for us.
“It’s a top-of-the-table clash so it’s going to be a hard game and there are going to be chances going. We took the two chances that did fall to us.”
Cockhill levelled each time, though, with Gerard McLaughlin and Malachy McDermott on the mark.
Of McDermott’s goal, eight minutes into the second half, McConigley observed: “It was a terrible mistake from us that led to the goal.
“In fairness to Malachy, it was as good a strike as you’ll see at any football match. I felt we were doing quite well at the beginning of the second half.
“If they didn’t get that goal early, it could have been a different game.”
Cockhill hit the post twice, via Lee McColgan and Laurence Toland, while Mark Moran saw a goal ruled out for offside.
Rovers, who were without the injured Jonny Bonner and the suspended Conor Tourish, were quite content with the share of the spoils.
McConigley said: “We were missing two of our best players. That was a set-back and we had to change the formation. All in all, with having to do that, I was quite pleased with the performance.”
