Donegal League manager Raymond Shields has called on his men to repeat their performance from a pre-Christmas win over Inishowen in tonight’s Oscar Traynor Trophy quarter-final.
“We were hoping against all odds that Ballyare would be ready, but the weather has beaten us,” Shields told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub at The Diamond Park at lunchtime.
“It would have been nice to play at home in Ballyare, but it’s not to be. Thankfully Gweedore Celtic’s pitch was on stand-by. It’s second to none.”
Donegal League, who were semi-finalists, losing out to Clare, a couple of years ago, have an injury concern over St Catherine’s goalkeeper Michael Mullin, but Castlefin Celtic’s Christopher O’Donnell has been providing the cover.
Limerick League are actually represented by a club side, in the form of Janesboro, one of the recognised clubs on Shannonside.
Shields, who is in his first term as Donegal League manager, said: “We are expecting a tough game. We’re taking nothing for granted, but if we can reproduce what we did against Inishowen, we’ll be okay.”
