It was a frustrated, yet proud Johnny Baird, who watched his Letterkenny Institute of Technology fall to defeat in yesterday’s CUFL Premier Division semi-final.

A brace of goals in each half gave Carlow IT a 4-0 win at the Port Road and it was a day when LyIT were given some harsh lessons in taking chances.

“Whenever you don’t take chances, and we had two very good ones, you’ll get punished,” Baird told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“They’re a very good side. They’re strong and physical.

“The turning point was definitely the second goal. Mistakes happen, but we’ll learn from them.”

LyIT now go to UCC at the beginning of the week for a Kelly Cup game.

Baird said: “It goes to show what we can do up here when we have a mix of players willing to play together. We’ve shown that we’re well capable of being in the Premier.
