Erin ‘Fildara’ McLaughlin has been named in a 20-player Republic of Ireland Women’s Under-17 squad for a friendly double-header in Iceland next week.

The Sea Rovers woman has been included by Colin Bell for the trip.

The WU17 squad are set to fly to Reykjavik, Iceland on Sunday, February 17 for the matches on Monday and Wednesday as Ireland step up preparations for their UEFA Elite Round fixtures.

Bell’s side will travel to Scotland in March for their Elite Round games against Germany, Norway and hosts Scotland as they look to qualify for the UEFA European Championships in Bulgaria in the summer.

“These are two important tests for us as we look to prepare for the elite round stage,” said WU17 Head Coach Colin Bell.

“Iceland have proven in the past to be a quality, physical outfit and this will be exactly the type of opposition we need to get ourselves to the highest performance level possible.

“To face Germany, Norway and Scotland in our elite round presents a difficult task but we’ve got plenty of quality within the squad and the levels of improvement I’ve seen from the players over the time I’ve worked with them has been fantastic.

“We’re going to have two days of training in Ireland before heading to Iceland so I’m really looking forward to an intensive week of training and matches with the squad.”
