Neil McGee set to move closer to Colm McFadden’s Donegal record

Neil McGee is closing in on Colm McFadden’s all-time Donegal appearance record.

McGee could make his first appearance of 2019 on Saturday when Donegal face Cork at Pairc Ui Rinn.

The Gaoth Dobhair man is expected to add to his 171 appearances this weekend.

McGee, due to his club commitments with the Donegal and Ulster champions, who lost to Corofin in last month’s All-Ireland club SFC semi-final, was unavailable for the early part of the inter-county season.

However, the teak-tough full-back has recently returned to training and is poised to make a comeback this weekend on Leeside.

McGee first played for Donegal in the 2005 Dr McKenna Cup.

He won the All-Ireland in 2012 and has four Ulster titles

The 33-year-old is a three-time All-Star and is on the cusp of levelling McFadden’s all-time appearance record of 173. Should he played in the Division 2 games against Cork and Kildare over the next two weekends, McGee will draw level with McFadden.

McGee already holds the record for the most Senior Football Championship appearances – 66 – for Donegal.
