Met Eireann has issued a fresh snow-ice warning for Donegal as temperatures get ready to plummet this weekend.

A Status Yellow caution has been given for the county, with -2C temperatures on the way.

And Met Eireann may issue more warnings as “hail, sleet and a risk of snow” are to hit other parts of the country on Saturday.

Donegal will be on alert between midnight on Friday and 12pm on Saturday.

Met Eireann said: “A spell of snow on Friday night and early Saturday morning will lead to poor driving conditions and accumulations of up to 3cm.

“On high ground accumulations are likely to be greater.”

Meanwhile, the national forecaster has warned of a potentially snowy St Patrick’s weekend.

Met Eireann is predicting snowfall on Saturday, especially in the north west.

And “widespread frost” is expected as temperatures are to plunge to as low as -2C overnight.

A spokesperson said: “Rain in the early morning on Saturday, heavy in places, with falls of sleet and snow in some northern and northwestern areas.
