Brendan Boyce finished eighth in the 20k race walk at the Lugano Trophy in Switzerland today.

The Milford man finished the race in one hour, 27 minutes and 33 seconds.

Ziukas Marius from Lithuania won the race with Boyce’s Irish colleague Alex Wright in second and South African Snyman Wayne in third.

Boyce this year will compete at the European Race Walking Cup and will also look to make an impression in the 2018 World Athletics Championships in Doha.

Last week, the Finn Valley AC athlete hit out at proposed changes to his sport with his favoured event, the 50k race walk, set to be scrapped as sport chiefs are moving to shorter distances.
