Donegal League: Full round-up as Voodoo Venue Cup semi-finals take place

Strand Rovers will get another chance at lifting the Voodoo Venue Cup after reaching the final for the second season in a row by defeating Fintown Harps on Saturday afternoon at Diamond Park, Ballyare.

Last season they lost the decider in a very entertaining battle with Arranmore United at An Screban.

They will not have it anyway easy, however. In the final, they will meet Glencar Celtic who are one of the League’s most highly regarded Saturday outfits.

The Letterkenny based side defeated Castlefin Celtic Reserves, also on Saturday, and will want to end the season with silverware.

It would take a brave man to place a substantial wager on this one which promises to be a close affair.

Certainly, a date for the Diary of any neutral who wants to see local soccer played at it’s best in a Cup Final atmosphere.

The Final will take place at Diamond Park, Ballyare in the coming weeks.

Glencar Celtic 4 Castlefin Celtic Reserves 0

Glencar Celtic booked their Voodoo Venue Cup Final spot with a strong second half performance which saw them defeat Castlefin Celtic Reserves 4-0 in the first of two semi-finals played at League headquarters in Ballyare on Saturday afternoon.

It was scoreless at the break but Paddy Collins fired Glencar in the lead after the re-start. Graham Cullen doubled their advantage before an own goal made it 3-0. Jordan Mc Ginley got Glencar’s fourth.

Fintown Harps AFC 0 Strand Rovers 3

Strand Rovers saw off the challenge of Fintown Harps AFC in the second semi-final at Diamond Park, this game kicked off on Saturday evening at 5pm.

James Mc Cole, Shane O’ Donnell and Doalty Boyle got the goals for the Maghery men and the Wigs & Flags that their supporters had in Gweedore last year will get another day out, this time at League headquarters.
