Listen: “It was hard for a club that hadn’t won silverware” – Bonagee boss McClafferty

Damien McClafferty admitted that tension and nerves crept into his Bonagee side as they inched closer to the Division One title.

Yesterday, Bonagee finally got their hands on the prize after a one-all draw at Gweedore Celtic.

For the club, it was a first Sunday League title in the 48-year history of the Donegal League and the nerves whistled through their boots late in the day yesterday after Colin Ferry cancelled out Glenn Gallagher’s opener.

“It was hard for a club that hadn’t won silverware,” Bonagee boss McClafferty told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“Tension and nerves do come into it. We have a few lads in there who have won the Division, but the majority aren’t used to getting over the line.

“Some of them have been around the club for 15 or 16 years.

“The calibre of players there, they should be winning more. I’m delighted that they’ve finally got some silverware.”
