Listen: Nigel McMonagle and Greencastle aim to stay on the glory trail

Nigel McMonagle says Greencastle are gunning for Premier Division glory after winning the club’s first senior trophy on Saturday evening.

A 3-0 win over Carn at Maginn Park in the League Cup final secured a first adult men’s title for the Greeks.

“Hopefully the second won’t be as long as the first,” McMonagle told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“We’ll not get carried away. The League is the big one. We went on a run of eight or nine at the end of last season. We signed a couple of experienced players and took in Kevin McLaughlin, a top coach. We’ve built on it as the season has gone on.

Two goals from James Henry and another by Jamie McCormick saw off Carn on Saturday and McMonagle said: “We got off to a good start and kept the ball well. We didn’t give them much time on the ball. Once we got the first goal, any sign of nerves disappeared at that stage.”
