Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan says his side must find their scoring touch or their ever-fading hopes of Premier Division survival will be gone.
Harps face Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds tonight looking for a first League win of the season.
Harps haven’t scored in their last three games and haven’t hit the net in nine of their 13 League outings so far.
Indeed, five of the seven League goals scored by Harps came in two games – the 4-3 loss to Cork City and the 3-2 defeat by Derry City.
“It’s not for the lack of trying to get more goals and chances have come our way but we just haven’t been finishing,” Horgan said.
“All we can do is go out and be mentally strong and believe that we can change the course of season at the Showgrounds.
“We also have to improve defensively and reduce the amount of errors we are making when the opposition are in possession.”
Harps have lost ten League games on the trot, a club record, and were beaten 2-0 by St Patrick’s Athletic on Monday.
Horgan said: “We had a few opportunities in the Pat’s game on Monday night but again we failed to find the net.
“That was disappointing but obviously the confidence levels are not high at the moment because of the poor run of results.”
Harps remain without the injured Gareth Harkin, Mark Timlin, Harry Ascroft and Ciaran Gallagher, while Colm Deasy continues to miss out through suspension.
Sligo are struggling somewhat themselves, but the Bit O’Red are ten points in front of Harps in the standings.
Horgan said: “Since we lost to them in Finn Park back in March, they have beaten Dundalk and drew with Cork on Friday night.
“We’re under no illusions about the scale of the challenge the lads face.
“But, as I’ve said before that’s why we want to be in Premier Division preparing for games like this.
“We’re not in a good place going to Sligo but we are determined to try and change that and need to do so quickly so as we are not cut further adrift at the bottom of the table.”
