Arranmore United captain Michael McHugh was almost breathless after his side’s extra-time win over Cockhill Celtic Youths in yesterday’s Ulster Junior Shield final.

A brace of goals in extra time by Gavin McGlanaghey fired the Islanders to a memorable win in Ballyare.

“What a day,” McHugh said in an interview with Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“It was a pulsating game from start to finish. Cockhill put it up to us, but we came good in the end up.

“The lads showed a lot of character.”

McHugh hailed the impact of substitute McGlanaghey, who proved to be Arranmore’s match winner.

He said: “Gavin was superb when he came on. He’s lethal in front of goal and he showed that today. He was only on for 20 minutes, but he made a massive impact.”
