Pat McLaughlin could hardly believe his ears last night – when Greencastle FC were confirmed as Inishowen League champions.

At half-time in Greencastle’s Knockalla Caravans Senior Cup semi-final against Bonagee United, Carn manager John D O’Kane called McLaughlin.

Confirmation from O’Kane that Carn held Glengad to a one-all draw meant that Greencastle headed for the second-half toasting the title.

“It’s a great night for the club,” McLaughlin told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“It’s unbelievable. That was our aim when we took on the job.”

Greencastle have two games left to play but have won all 14 of their Jackie Crossan Premier Division matches so far.

McLaughlin said: “This season has been brilliant, and the boys have done everything we’ve asked. Their work ethic is amazing.”
