Finn Harps U15s face Derry in Maginn Park derby test

Finn Harps’ U15 side makes the short trip to Maginn Park this evening to face Derry City in the second North West derby of the season.

The sides played out an entertaining match just ten days ago, with Harps’ taking all three points after a nervy finish.

Conor Loughrey Derry picked up an impressive win away to Mayo Schoolboys League at the weekend and will fancy their chances at home on the immaculate surface at Maginn Park.

Conor Campbell’s last minute strike against Monaghan-Cavan FP gave Harps all three points in a match where both sides cancelled each other out for long periods.

Reflecting back on the weekend performance manager Paul McBride said it had been a very difficult game for his side.

“Monaghan/Cavan made it extremely difficult for us,” he said.

“We had chances and failed to take them earlier in the match. To be honest, we had settled for a point but when you have a player of Conor’s calibre, he’s got that strike in him in every match. T

“he result gave the boys a massive lift.”

On team news, McBride will be without Ben O’Donnell due to an arm injury. Luke McGlynn returns, having missed the MUCFP match due to a family occasion.

Looking ahead to the Derry game, the Harps boss said both sides were very familiar with each other. He said: “Both teams know plenty about each other so I expect a great contest. Maginn’s surface is fantastic and with such a big pitch, hopefully we’ll use it to our advantage.

“I’ve everyone available bar Ben O’Donnell. We’ve a busy week ahead for us with the return MUCFP match on Saturday. It beats training!”

Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm.
