Clinical Galway defeated brave Donegal Women’s League in the latest round of the U17 Women’s National League.

The Westerners hit three goals in the first half at Dry Arch Park and added another two in the final quarter.

Shauna Brennan opened the scoring with a cracking goal from distance. Brennan’s goal arched up and over the Donegal goalkeeper, Neve Scanlan, who had no chance of preventing the lead.

When Annie Gough tucked in a second from close range, it was an uphill battle after just 22 minutes for the home side.

Donegal battled well with Aisling Irwin involved heavily, while Ciara McGarvey battled tirelessly.

However, Galway added a third from the impressive Aoibhin Donnelly before half-time when she surged clear and slotted past the advancing Scanlan.

Galway ‘keeper Hannah Walsh had to be alert to thwart the danger when Aoife Kelly got clear.

Molly Page and Coilín Hume, Donegal’s busy pairing at the back, defended well for the hosts, but their rear guard was under constant siege.

Kellie Brennan finished for the fourth from a penalty and substitute Anna Fahy was also on target as Galway closed out well and showed their experience.
