James McGinley has backed the Donegal minor ladies to bounce back from yesterday’s Ulster MFC final loss to Monaghan.
Donegal led 1-3 to 0-4 at half-time, but Monaghan hit back to win 0-13 to 1-6.
“We played well for 45, maybe 50 minutes, but we tailed off,” McGinley told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub after the game.
“Once they got level, the wind went out of our sails a little bit. We tried to force things more than we normally do.
“We were very happy with the first half. Everything we looked at was going to plan.
“Our passing in the last ten minutes let us down and we were turned over a couple of times too many times. Monaghan pushed up on us and they deserved it.”
Kate McClenaghan netted the Donegal goal in the first half and was denied a second later in the game by a superb Monaghan block.
McGinley said: “I’m very disappointed for them. I felt they deserved an Ulster title, but unfortunately it didn’t fall for them.
“They’re a brilliant bunch of players, from 1 to 32. Every one of them will have another day out, another Ulster final and hopefully they get over the line.
“That’s it for this year. We’re losing seven of the starting 15, but 17 of the panel are back next year and they’ll be looking for that Minor Championship.”
