Third Garda added to Community Policing Unit in Letterkenny

A third Garda member has been allocated to the Community Policing Unit in Letterkenny.

Donegal Joint Policing Committee Chairperson Cllr Gerry Mc Monagle has welcomed the news.

He said this is something both himself and Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce have been lobbying for over these last few months.

“Both the Chamber and I fully recognise the importance of a fully resourced Community Policing Unit in Letterkenny.

“In recent months we have been meeting with and lobbying Garda Management with a view to increasing the Community Policing Unit.

“So we are delighted to get confirmation from the Chief Superintendent that another Garda has been allocated to the Community Policing Unit and that a further cohort of Probationer Gardai will soon be allocated to Donegal with a number of them being allocated to Letterkenny Garda Station.”

The Sinn Fein councillor said he believes increasing the Community Policing Unit is the most effective way to deal with the recent spike in Anti-Social behaviour.

He added “We need more Gardai on our streets and Town Centre to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour so the news that we are getting extra Gardai is very much welcomed. I would also like to congratulate the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce for their input into helping to secure these extra Gardai for the town.”
