Mairead McGuinness has become the first Irish MEP to be elected in the Midlands North West Constituency in the 2019 European elections.
The Fine Gael candidate, and serving MEP, topped the poll on the first count in Castlebar.
McGuinness achieved 134,630 votes to win the first seat in the four-seat constituency.
It’s day three of the European Elections count. Luke Ming Flanagan is on course to retain his seat, while Sinn Féin’s Matt Carthy looks set to take the third.
