Two Letterkenny AC runners, Annmarie McGlynn and Eoin Hughes, turned in tremendous performances on Saturday afternoon in the Irish Milers’  Track meeting at the Mary Peters track in Belfast.

In glorious sunshine, Annmarie stormed to victory in the 5000m race in a time of 16.09. Annmarie is now looking forward to July 6th. She is  1 of 5 athletes selected to run for Ireland in the European 10K Cup in London.

Ireland’s other representatives are Emma Mitchell (Queen’s University AC), Fionnuala Ross (Armagh AC), Aoibhe Richardson (Kilkenny City Harriers) and Fionnuala McCormack (Kilcoole AC).

Annmarie and her teammates have the best wishes of all at Letterkenny AC. Eoin Hughes had a fine run and his highly creditable time of 15.47 gave him 2nd place in the men’s 5000m race.

Tuesday night’s Glenswilly GAA  5K turned out to be one of the best 5Ks so far in the Grand Prix, in terms of both quality and quantity. 526 runners completed this event, which has been highly popular since its inception in 2012.

There were excellent times with City of Derry AC’s Conor Bradley winning in a fast time of 14.47. He was followed by a group of 3 LAC runners. Karol Duggan was a highly impressive runner up in 15.28 and was closely followed by Danny Mooney in 15.32. Ciaran Doherty showed remarkable consistency; his 4th place overall, 1st place in the M40 category and time of 15.37 were all identical to what he had achieved in the Corran AC 5K in Sligo just 3 days earlier.

Raymond Birch was 2nd in the M40 category in 16.26, just 6 seconds ahead of the next M40 finisher, Ivan Toner. The next LAC finisher was Adam Friel in 16.38. Kevin Kelly recorded an excellent time of 17.20. Patrick Brennan’s good form continued and he was the 2nd M35 finisher in 17.55.

Prolific racer, Dessie Shiels, continued his impressive recent form and crossed the line in 18.47. Fellow M40 LAC runner, Liam Ferry, has also been impressive recently; he clocked 18.59.

Monica McGranaghan continued her domination in women’s races and picked up another 1st place in 19.01. Frank Pinder clocked 20.18, Peter Hamilton 20.22, Stephen Shiels 20.38 and Peter Gallagher 20.45. Eimear Gormley’s success continued and she was the 2nd woman in 21.04. Paul Harris crossed the line in  21.40 and Gary Price in 22.09.

Ciaran Doherty was back in action on Sunday in the Aghyaran 10K. He had another outstanding outing and was 2nd overall and 1st in the M40 category in 34.26. The race winner was Finn Valley AC’s John McElhill in 33.48.

Young Ronan Burke ran  27.57 and was the only LAC runner in the Letterkenny Parkrun. He was  2nd in the JM11-14 category.

After competing in the Letterkenny Parkrun 54 times, Paul Lee travelled to Strabane to take part in the recently instituted Strabane Parkrun. This was only the 2nd week of the event.

Paul was 7th overall and the 2nd M50 finisher in 21.57.
