Letterkenny Golf: Ulster success for Barton Shield team

Letterkenny Golf’s Barton Shield team led by Simon Stephens went to the last 16 in Ulster in what was a thrilling week of golf. 

Club notes:

Unfortunately, they were beaten by two holes in the North West Golf Club on Sunday (14/07/19)  by a strong Rosapenna Team. This ends their challenge for this year.

The All Ireland Fourball team played their first leg away to Kilkeel on Sunday (14/07/19) taking 2.5 matches and -2 holes. They need 3 matches at home next Sunday to progress to the Ulster semi-finals. Good luck to Team Captain Chris Nee and the panel.

The Minor League Team led by Bobby Mullally played at home against Bundoran on Thursday. (11/07/19) winning 4.5/0.5. They are playing their away game on Thurs  25/07/19 and will hopefully progress to the semi-finals. Good luck to Team Captain Bobby and panel.

The Sweeney Spar Open was played on Wednesday 10th July. First place went to Jackie Duffy (16.4) scoring 41 pts.. Jackie had a birdie on the 18th along with 8 pars. Kevin Rafferty (4.7) was runner up with 41 pts. (bot) and Denis O’Donnell (29.1) was third. Kevin Kiely and Colin Morrow 4th & 5th respectively also scored 40 pts.  Cian Harkin (2.8) won Gross with 38 pts.

The Kia Nissan Open was played on Saturday 13/07/19  Ian Vance (24.6) came in with a great score of 43 pts. Ian took 6 pars and 8 bogeys out of the course.  Gavin McGahey (21.7) was runner up with 42 pts. and Andrew Corry (10.8) was third with 41 pts. (bot).  Brendan McGrath (4.9) won Gross with 36 pts.

The Sunday Members Competition was won by Charlie Coughlan  (9.8) with a great score of 43 pts. Charlie had a birdie on the 7th with 12 pars and 5 bogeys. Ian Vance (23.0) was runner up with 41 pts. and Matthew Carlin (25.7) was third with 40 pts. Ciaran Gilcreest (1.9) won Gross with 37 pts.

The Cat 5 Competition on Monday 8th was won by Darren Hunter with 27 pts. over 13 holes.

Upcoming Events: Please note that the North West Breast Care Unit Silver Tassie Ladies & Gents Open has now been deferred from Friday 19th July to Friday 16th August ’19. 

On Saturday 20th July we have the DMG Motors Open with the usual Members Open on Sunday 21st.  On Wednesday 24th July we have the Bonnar Engineering Open.
