Patrick Gildea Hairdressing: Flattering haircuts for a youthful look

Looking for a hairstyle refresh? This week, the team at Patrick Gildea Centre of Excellence Letterkenny give a guide to great haircuts which flatter all ages.

We get so many guests looking to enhance their youthful look, from colour placement to flattering cuts there are many ways to achieve this depending on your face shape and skin tone.

Stylist Irene says “A well-cut hairstyle that flatters your face shape won’t just make you feel great, but it’ll keep you looking young. From adding a fringe to getting a classic crop, be inspired by our favorite celebrity women over 40.”

Here are some of Irene’s favourite cuts from some of the most glamorous Hollywood starlets:

Layered Bob – Cate Blanchett

This classic style is the perfect choice for women who want to look chic and elegant without a lot of maintenance.  The great thing is that there is a bob suited to most face shapes and hair textures. Chin length bobs are perfect for petite and angular faces while round faces should opt for slightly more length.

Jennifer Aniston and Cate Blanchett

Long and Straight – Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston has been on best hair lists since she rocked the famous “Rachel Cut” in the 90’s and her long layered locks are no different. The good news is that this cut works on nearly everyone! It’s straight with layers all around the front, longer layers at the back and blunt ends. Keep the hair looking healthy by not thinning out the ends too much.

Jennifer Garner

Loose Waves- Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner’s simple but striking loose waves help to soften her defined jawline. Add some honey-coloured highlights like Jennifer for extra lustre.

Layered Razor Cut – Halle Berry

Geometrically razor cut hair allowing a side fringe to creep over one eye. The style highlights delicate features and if you have razor sharp cheekbones this is the perfect cut for you to show them off. Irene says although this is a short cut you can still have fun styling it bringing an edgier feel to it with a Mohawk style or a sleek and elegant style whichever matches your mood!

Short With A Twist – Julie Bowen

This is a great length because it gives you so many options and is fun to play with since the focus is the length itself. You can add waves, wear it straight, sweep your fringe across your face, sleeked back or tousled there are plenty of choices and because of the shorter length, it won’t drag the face down

Irene says “whatever the length and style of cut you choose at any age–it should flatter, soften and frame your face, enhance your cut with a beautiful colour, one that will compliment your skin tone, depending on whether you are summer, winter, autumn or spring!”
