The Lough Swilly lifeboat was launched this morning following an emergency alert at Mulroy Bay.

The Rescue 118 helicopter and Mulroy Bay Coastguard were involved in the search at 7.45am after a signal was received from an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB).

The incident turned out to be a false alarm, as the EPIRB had become detached from a vessel.

The operation was stood down after rescuers confirmed that no vessels were in difficulty.
