Gardaí investigations are continuing into a fire which caused serious damage to a council property just days before a family was due to move in.

A malicious fire was started at a home in Treantaghmucklagh, St Johnston sometime between 5pm on Monday 2nd September and 7.50am on Tuesday 3rd September.

The house had been allocated to a family and was undergoing renovation in preparation for them moving in.

Gardaí have stressed the seriousness of the case, as deliberate fires in unoccupied properties can spread and have serious consequences.

Anyone with any information or may have seen anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Station on 0749167100 or the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111
