Watch: Patience and graft finally pays off for Naomh Muire ladies

NAOMH MUIRE captain Erika Hanna went through the pain barrier to lift the Junior A Championship for her side on Sunday morning.

In the closing minutes of a 4-7 to 1-9 win over Naomh Columba at O’Donnell Park, Hanna injured a foot and had to be helped to the stand. But after waiting so long for the moment, Hanna – one of the Naomh Muire goal-scorers – wasn’t going to be denied.

Naomh Muire lost three finals in a row, but on Sunday goals by Hanna, Ailbhe O’Donnell, Jade O’Donnell and Saoirse Bonner led the way as the Lower Rosses women got their hands on the prize.

“It’s unbelievable,” Hanna said.

“We were in the final three years in a row, lost them all, so it’s great to be back and get the win. We put in a tremendous effort all year and we deserved it. We were out at 7 o’clock in the morning before girls went back to work.

“We managed to get everyone back and we’ve been working hard since January.”
