LEAH GALLEN says she’s still pinching herself after claiming her second European medal last week.
The Raphoe ABC starlet returned from the European Youth Championships in Bulgaria with a bronze medal.
Wins over Annemarie Schierle and Gulcan Arga gave Gallen the prize, with her march only halted by Csilla Ambrus in the welterweight semi-final.
However, it’s a second European bronze for Gallen, who was the 2018 European Junior bronze medallist.
“I’m trying to get into a routine again. It was an unbelievable experience. It doesn’t feel real,” Gallen told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub at a homecoming function in Raphoe on Friday night.
“I’m happy that I achieved it in this club. Without everyone in it, I wouldn’t be here today. It’s great that I could achieve something like this for their club.”
Gallen won her European Junior nugget at 66kgs, but was into the welterweight (69kgs) class this time.
She said: “It was tough and I felt like a rag doll, but at times like that you have to just bite down and get on with it.”
