A Garda Inspector has said he hopes a missing Letterkenny man is found safe and well.

Inspector Seamus McGonigle made his comments at Falcarragh District Court during the case of Matthew Lafferty.

The 27-year-old has been missing since last Sunday when he was last seen on CCTV outside a hotel in Sligo.

He has since made contact with his family but they are still unsure of his whereabouts.

Mr Lafferty was due to be in court facing alleged in insurance charges.

His solicitor Patsy Gallagher said “Matthew has been in the local media in recent days because we are not sure of his whereabouts and his family are very worried.”

Judge Paul Kelly said that in the circumstances he would not issue a bench warrant.
