Listen: ‘We just had to lift it’ – Gaoth Dobhair ace Odhrán Mac Niallais

ODHRÁN Mac Niallais says that Gaoth Dobhair just had to ‘lift it’ as they headed into the cauldron with Kilcar yesterday.

The Ulster and Donegal champions handed Kilcar a first League or Championship defeat of 2019 to book a spot in the October 20 final.

Goals from Eamonn Collum, Daire Ó Baoill and Kevin Cassidy fired the champions to a deserved win on a day when Gaoth Dobhair clicked into gears they’d not been in since their heady days of last winter.

“I suppose we were underdogs coming in,” Mac Niallais told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“We had to give it everything. We knew we had to lift our game from the last couple of weeks.

“We probably strolled into this game in third or fourth gear. We knew we had to really lift it – and thankfully we did.

“We didn’t perform to the levels we know we can in the last couple of weeks. It had to come now or it would have been too late.”
