Barrett, Toland aim for places as Ireland face Ukraine in qualifier

TALLAGHT Stadium is expected to be packed to its rafters tonight when the Republic of Ireland women’s team face Ukraine in a crunch Euro 2021 qualifier.

All 8,000 tickets for the game have been gone since Friday and there is a significant waiting list of fans looking for tickets for the game.

Donegal duo Amber Barrett and Tyler Toland are both vying for inclusion in the first XI named by new Girls in Green manager Vera Pauw.

The Dutch woman – who has coached Scotland, Netherlands, Russia and South Africa – was recently appointed as Colin Bell’s successor.

Barrett moved to FC Köln in the Bundesliga this summer while Toland has signed a two-year deal at Manchester City.

Pauw expects to have a full squad available for selection with no injury concerns ahead of the game.

She said: “We need a positive result from this game, we cannot lose. Our first aim is to win the game, but we cannot lose and so if we need to make a decision to go for a draw, we will do that on the night.”
