Listen: Martin hopes Killybegs U21s make ground in ‘forgotten competition’

KEVIN Martin has urged his Killybegs Under-21s to make the most of their chance in the ‘forgotten competition’.

Goals by Jack O’Donnell, Shaun Gorrell and Jack McSharry secured a 3-14 to 0-13 win over St Michael’s yesterday to seal a place in the last eight.

“These players have to think that they’re a Senior A Division 1 team now,” Killybegs manager Martin told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“It’s still a senior competition. It’s the forgotten competition at times, but these boys can see an opportunity there for them.”

O’Donnell struck in the first half to put Killybegs ahead 1-6 to 0-6. The Fishermen dominated an impressive second half.

Martin said: “It’s not easy to come up here, two hours on a bus, into windy conditions, but we were fantastic at times. We’re delighted to be in the next round. I was delighted that we came out and blew them away in the second half.”
