‘I didn’t get the backing of the clubs’ – Eamon McConigley

EAMON McConigley bemoaned the lack of ‘backing’ from clubs after his Donegal Youth League side overcame Inishowen in the Inter-League Cup yesterday.

Leon Doherty’s double and a late penalty by Jack Dwyer sealed a 3-1 win, but McConigley was disappointed to have only 13 players at his disposal.

“Unfortunately I didn’t get the backing from the clubs that I thought I would and expected to,” McConigley told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“I must say I’m delighted with the result. It was a struggle to get a squad to come down.

“We got a squad together. You could see that we didn’t have a lot of time together. I’m delighted with the way that it turned out.

“Great praise to the fellas who are in the dressing room. Getting people to come to a trial and wanting to play for their league and their county has been a struggle.

“These boys turned up and put in a magnificent performance.”
