An inspirational Ramelton student has been awarded the highest level of the Gaisce Award by President Michael D Higgins.

It was a proud day for Jessica McClean yesterday as she received the prestigious Gaisce Gold Award for making outstanding achievements in her community and in personal skills.

Jessica completed her Award with Royal & Prior Comprehensive School.

The Gold Gaisce Award sets five key challenges in community involvement, personal skills, physical recreation, adventures and a residential project.

Seventy seven inspirational young people from across Ireland were honoured with the awards at a special ceremony in Dublin Castle on Wednesday.

The ceremony was MC’d by the inspirational Sinéad Burke, teacher, writer, broadcaster, fashion-admirer and advocate for disability.

Gaisce – The President’s Award is a self-development programme for young people between the ages of 15-25, which is proven to enhance confidence and wellbeing through participation in personal, physical, community and team challenges. It is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, to all young people to dream big and realise their potential.
