Surprised Donegal man becomes extra in Hollywood blockbuster!

A young Donegal man has appeared in what promises to be the next Hollywood blockbuster – and he didn’t even know it.

James McColgan from Fahan was in New York last year for the wedding of a cousin.

He was minding his own business walking down the street and didn’t realise that A-lister Adam Sandler was walking behind him in a scene from his upcoming movie ‘Uncut Gems.’

The film, which was released in the US on Christmas Day and hits Irish cinemas on January 10th, tells the story of a jeweler and gambling addict in New York City’s Diamond District.

He gets in over his head with loan sharks and must retrieve an expensive gem he purchased in order to pay off his debts.

Not that Donegal man James knew much about the plot!

In fact, the first he knew about it was when his picture appeared in the New York Times Arts Section on December 16th last.

A family friend, Fionnuala Lindsey from Iskaheen in Inishowen, contacted James’ sister Rosie and asked “Is that your James?”

James, coincidently, is a bit of a film buff who works in London and Adam Sandler just happens to be one of his favourite actors!

Having missed out on officially meeting one of his stars just yards away from him, James is resigned to working as an extra for the foreseeable future.

“Don’t think I’ll give up the day job just yet,” he laughed.
