Letterkenny Athletic Club runners braved a cold morning Kilmacrennan to enjoy rapturous success.

The race, which was very well organised by Letterkenny AC runner Gerard McGranaghan, attracted almost 200 runners despite bitter conditions.

LAC runners were to the fore on Sunday and club runners occupied 3 of the first 4 places and the top 3 places in the women’s race.

Adam Friel was the race winner in an excellent time of 33.34. He was followed by Eoghan McGinley, who clocked 33.39. Finn Valley AC’s Mark McPaul was 3rd in 34.01 and LAC man Danny Mooney was 4th in 34.13.

John McCallion’s time of 34.57 gave him a top 10 placing. Ciaran McGonagle was making a welcome return after an injury and will be pleased to have run 36.31. Kevin McGee’s time was 37.27.

Monica McGranaghan won the women’s race in 39.46 and in-form Eimear Wiseman took 2nd place in 39.54. Marie Boyle completed a LAC 1-2-3 when she came home in 43.27.

Liam Ferry clocked 41.12, Michael Harkin 41.25, Mark Nee 41.28 and Mark McFadden 42.44. Pat Brady crossed the line in in 43.40, Peter Gallagher in 43.47, Paul McMonagle in 43.50, Martin McGinley in 43.53 and Gary Kearns in 44.03. M50 runners, Stephen Shiels and Paul Lee came home in 44.17 and 44.36 respectively.

Frank Pinder’s time was 47.51 and Gerard Mullen’s was 47.59. Margaret Shiels had a fine run and took the F50 prize in 48.34. Richard Raymond continued his impressive return from back problems and finished his first 10K for several months in a time of 49.13.

Theresa Wiseman ran well and was 2nd in the F50 category in 50.46. Niamh McDaid’s time was 59.14.

Club coach, Teresa McDaid, was given a tremendous and very well-deserved award at the weekend.

Teresa is Athletics Ireland’s Senior Teams’ Operations Manager and, for that role, she was given the award of Signify Ireland ‘Manager of the Month’ for December.

Teresa also managed the Irish cross-country team who claimed 4 medals at the 2019 European Cross-Country Championship in Lisbon last month.

Fionnuala McCormack was 4th in the Senior Women’s race and the team secured a silver medal. Teresa received her award from Mariana Mulhall, Signify Ireland.
