LORETO Community School, Milford book a berth in the MacLarnon Cup semi-finals as they dethroned holders St Patrick’s, Downpatrick.

Loreto Community School, Milford 1-11 St Patrick’s, Downpatrick 0-7

Red High, the winners last year, were rocked when Oran Cunningham was sent off after 15 minutes, but the Milford scholars won by double scores in Garvaghey.

Loreto led 0-5 to 0-2 at half-time with Johnny McGroddy (2) and Rory O’Donnell among the scorers.

O’Donnell and Bobby McGettigan hit points on the resumption before Ronan Connor was black-carded seven minutes into the new half.

With Connor in the sin-bin and Red High down to 13 players, Loreto took full advantage.

McGroddy steered over two points and when McGettigan riffled a 44th minute goal past Peter Kearney, the Downpatrick goalkeeper, it was curtains.

Downpatrick had the wind in their backs during the closing stages, but Loreto had done enough.

The draw will take place on Wednesday night in Armagh.
