Veteran McDaid scores four as Swilly Rovers secure promotion

SWILLY Rovers secured promotion into Division 1 of the Donegal League after scoring seven times today.

Swilly Rovers 7 Dunkineely Celtic 0

Veteran attacker Marty McDaid scored four times as Swilly made light of Dunkineely in a game played at the Letterkenny Community Centre.

Last spring, Swilly withdrew from the Ulster Senior League, ending their association with Intermediate football, before returning to the Donegal League’s ranks.

The Lennonsiders now have the Division 2 crown firmly in sight, though today marks a landmark afternoon as promotion has been secured.

McDaid’s four goals and Swilly’s big win left them poised, but they still needed Whitestrand to slip up against Lagan.

While Paul Ferry had put Whitestrand in front, James Tourish’s equaliser earned Lagan a point and confirmed Swilly’s promotion.

Swilly were 4-0 up at the interval with goals from Ryan McDaid, Matthew Sweeney and a double from McDaid.

The second period saw the boys in red continue their dominance with Jordan Nugent scoring a fine goal and the evergreen McDaid getting two more.
