Portsalon Golf Club Ladies course gets a makeover

FEBRUARY may have been a quiet month for golf for many but Portsalon Golf Club have been busy making changes to the Ladies course.

The changes have been formally introduced last week, with a number of holes receiving a makeover, in particular the 2nd, 6th and 18th have been reduced to Par-4’s with new tee boxes in play and the course reduced from par 75 to par 72.

Ladies will also note that the indices for a number of holes have been amended to reflect these new changes.

Some of which will no doubt present a number of interesting challenges and tests for whomever plays it over the next few months but it should also add to the excitement and reward of playing on the Banks.

O’Toole wins Members Competition

A number of Ladies braved the elements on Sunday 23rd to play in the members’ competition under the new playing conditions. Deirdre O’Toole (14) came to the fore with 31pts to win.

Winter Links

The Ladies Winter Links is taking place this Thursday 27th February, timesheet in operation. To book or cancel contact the Portsalon Golf Club 07491-59459.

Weather the winner – again!

IT WAS another low-key weekend for golf at Portsalon Golf Clin as poor weather conditions battered the countryside, resulting in competitions being abandoned on Saturday.

Some play was managed on Sunday and, hopefully, the very wintery conditions will have subsided by the coming weekend.

The levels of rainfall lately are making for challenging times for our green staff. We have seen double the rain fall recorded on the course during this month compared to last year, with 130ml falling to date this February versus 61.5ml in the whole month last year.

The greens staff have been busy throughout the winter months making improvements to the course in very challenging weather conditions.

As we start to see more play on the course in the coming months, we would ask that everyone please be mindful of your pitch marks and repair them.

The course is very soft at the moment so even a short shot from the edge of the green can create a pitch mark. If you can also please replace you divots and then cover with them divot mix.

Members Offers

As we move into the new season we have a few offers that we want to share with you. Any member wishing to buy a Portsalon Golf Club pullover and t-shirt can do so €55.  This will be the uniform for teams representing the club going forward.
